The few that have been fortunate enough to get their lips on a glass of Talisker’s 2012 Special Release will realise why so many say that it is simply the best whisky they have tasted. It was distilled all the way back in 1977 in American and European oak casks. There’s a wonderful, grassy palate with hints of sandalwood, mint and chocolate with a very long and intense finish.
Flavour Profile: Nose
Marmalade overtones with traditional hints of heather. The nose is soft and complex with traces of tangerine, quince jelly and plums.
Flavour Profile: Palate
Perfectly balanced, peaty and medicinal. The palate is grassy, aspic with aniseed and luscious with rose petals. Rich and flavoursome, but tantalisingly light in mouthfeel despite its age.
Flavour Profile: Finish
The finish is intense and long, delivered with elements of orange rind and buzzing with late spice.
