Head around to Port Askaig on the isle of Islay and as well as a load of stumbling tourists, you’ll come across a large distillery that’s been in use for over 150 years, Caol Ila. They produce a lighter style of whisky in comparison to its island neighbours, such as this 18 Year Old Single Malt. It is an exceptional dram that has an aromatic nose, a hefty palate and touches of oak, barley and of course, peat. A bottle for those in search of something a little more exceptional.
Flavour Profile: Nose
With a certain darkness and stillness, there is still a heady mix of grass, aromats & forest floor to experience.
Flavour Profile: Palate
Oak, smoke and a rotund fruity sweetness prevail.
Flavour Profile: Finish
Herbaceous and fluid, the finish is long. Utterances of earthy elements, smoke, light peat and oil remain.
