There are not many times in your life you get the opportunity to own a little piece of history, but this 35-Year-Old offering from Caol Ila is just that. It was distilled all the way back in 1984 and upon being released in 2019 it was considered by many to be one of the best Island whiskies to ever come out of Scotland - thanks to its subtle palate and ash-like finish. It’s understandable that such a delicacy sits in the higher price bracket, but there’s not a whisky lover in the world that would tell you it isn’t worth it.
Flavour Profile: Nose
Evocative of an artist's studio, aromas of pine, resin & malt emerge. There's a hint of smokiness with a tiny kick of almond & mint which brings an unexpected freshness to the nose.
Flavour Profile: Palate
Opening with a soft cooling sweetness & then moving quickly to a more earthy dryness. Developing further into smoky territory, huge mouth coating tannins with a smudge of herbal astringency coat the palate with a rising peaty pungency.
Flavour Profile: Finish
Long, spicy-sweet - butter pastry & honeyed cereal, with a silky dryness to the finish & a comforting smoky warmth throughout.
