Each and every year, the Lagavulin distillery on the Isle of Islay releases a special 12 Year Old for the next twelve-month period. The 18th edition of the series, released in 2018 was a particularly fine example of the unmistakeable distillery style.
Flavour Profile: Nose
Energetic and bold. There is an unmistakable character which owes itself to a core of smouldering peat and a salty breath of wind. Juxtaposed with a high note of citrus, fresh mint and tropical fruits, its nose also provides aromas of creamy toffee and burnt caramel.
Flavour Profile: Palate
Exquisitely robust, the palate displays a sweet but firm start with strong salty overtones which dries quickly to the intensity of aged vinegar. It possesses a mariner appeal - old crates, creaking wooden boards, candle wax and pungent cigar style breaths.
Flavour Profile: Finish
Smoky, spicy and warming. There is a vintage dustiness to the finish which returns to the heady notes of rich fruit and lasting grainy tannins.
