You could easily look at the Singleton Dufftown 12-Year-Old as the smaller sibling of the Dufftown malts but in no way less impressive. The 12-year-old bottle has also won a load of star prizes for its age, including a Silver medal in the 2014 International Wine and Spirit Competition. The difference compared to the 15 Year Old is down, is that it is more nutty and malty, as it is mostly aged in European casks. As for the palate, there is definitely a touch of orange zest and cut grass, but it’s the lingering rich and fruity finish that makes it such a moreish pleasure.
Flavour Profile: Nose
Evoking freshly toiled earth, the nose is at once hay & walnut, moving into the territory of hot buttered toast & warm malt.
Flavour Profile: Palate
Uncomplicated, there is a heart of malt, toffee & roasted nuts, which is played against a beautiful high note of orange zest & cut grass.
Flavour Profile: Finish
Red fruits linger at the end of a lengthy finish steeped in oak & dark chocolate.
